Maternity Travel Tips: The Secrets to Traveling During Pregnancy

I had a handful of travel plans already in place before I got pregnant, and the closer I got to those trips, the more nervous I got about the whole thing- How would my body react? Would I be so exhausted from the flights that I couldn’t recover once I got to my destination? Was it safe? How could I make it easier and less stressful? I started searching for advice online and I was frustrated to find that most articles simply suggested traveling during your second trimester. Ummm, not helpful.  When your best friend is getting married and you are the Matron of Honor and your husband is the…

Witnessing History: A Triple Crown Moment

I still can’t believe that I witnessed history and saw Justify win the Triple Crown! On June 9th, the winner of the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes horse races, Justify, ran in the Belmont Stakes. Winning all three races is something only 12 other horses have accomplished. Justify was lucky number 13. Daniel and I have a love of horse racing. My dream since I was little was to go to the Kentucky Derby, as my mom and I watched it every year at home in Michigan. DO try a Mint Julep For no other reason than to experience the official drink of the Derby, buy one of these overly-priced beverages. Why? It is the iconic Derby drink. Nearly 120,000 Mint Juleps are served at the racetrack on Derby weekend. Also, though they are $14 a pop, they are served in glass cups and you get to keep those so be sure to snag one as a souvenir. They are also refreshing and served sooooo cold, which is great on a hot race day. I love the smell of mint that hits me in the face as I take a swig. Mint Julep: . 2 cups sugar .…

    How Football Made Me

From when I was born all the way up until my senior year of high school, every other fall Saturday was spent rising in the dark morning and driving down to West Lafayette, Indiana from Michigan to watch the Boilermakers. We had the dark years, we had the Joe Tiller years, we gained Hope and more than once we lost hope. I’ve watched the team change hands and I’ve watched the team change uniforms. I was a tiny elementary school girl standing in line to meet players like Drew Brees and Vinny Sutherland and I was a high school kid standing in line to meet players like Dustin Keller and Kory Sheets. Then, when…

How Disney World is Even Better as an Adult

My family first packed me into the car at 18 months old. I knew all of the characters’ names from watching and memorizing The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. From that trip forward, I was a Disney World girl. I cherished the short thrills on rides that I earned from standing in long lines. I collected autograph books and hugged Mickey and Minnie as my mom took pictures. I knew how to get around the Magic Kingdom before I knew how to get around my own hometown. You might think that Disney World loses its magic as you grow up, but it doesn’t. The magic simply changes. Just…
