Witnessing History: A Triple Crown Moment
I still can’t believe that I witnessed history and saw Justify win the Triple Crown! On June 9th, the winner of the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes horse races, Justify, ran in the Belmont Stakes. Winning all three races is something only 12 other horses have accomplished. Justify was lucky number 13. Daniel and I have a love of horse racing. My dream since I was little was to go to the Kentucky Derby, as my mom and I watched it every year at home in Michigan. That dream came true for me in 2014, when Daniel surprised me with tickets to the Derby and to the Oaks. Little…

Advice for Mrs. Indiana
Originally posted on April 5, 2018 In a few short weeks there will be a new Mrs. Indiana! My year with the red, white, and blue sash was a magical one. I’ll never forget when I heard Nicole call my name on that stage announcing me as Mrs. Indiana 2016. Some lucky woman will experience that feeling for herself soon, so I’m sharing my advice on how to have the best experience possible as a titleholder. Take it from this has-been; it is one wild and fantastic ride! 1. Take pictures- the year flies by. I look through pictures from my reign all the time and it brings back the most incredible memories 2. Say ‘yes” to every…

Kentucky Derby Do’s and Don’ts
DO try a Mint Julep For no other reason than to experience the official drink of the Derby, buy one of these overly-priced beverages. Why? It is the iconic Derby drink. Nearly 120,000 Mint Juleps are served at the racetrack on Derby weekend. Also, though they are $14 a pop, they are served in glass cups and you get to keep those so be sure to snag one as a souvenir. They are also refreshing and served sooooo cold, which is great on a hot race day. I love the smell of mint that hits me in the face as I take a swig. Mint Julep: . 2 cups sugar .…

Whiskey Smash How-To
When I was in high school, I was blessed to get the opportunity to travel to Ireland with my dad’s side of the family. My grandparents, Bob and Jay Clancy, have always done an excellent job of teaching me about my Irish heritage and I was thankful to get to experience the country with them. We toured castles, we ate weird food, we hung out in pubs, we waltzed through fields and chased sheep. Blarney Stone, Guinness brewery, Jameson distillery, Cliffs of Moher; you name it we did it. What I learned on that trip was that Irish people have a very special way about them. They have particularly kind…

Sideline Style: Coaching Essentials
As a high school kid, even bigger than my dream to teach was my dream to coach cheerleading, my beloved sport. It is the most dangerous sport in the world but also the most rewarding to me, as I have the honor of watching athletes tackle their fears and reach their dreams. I was so lucky to have been given the opportunity to begin my coaching career right out of college seven years ago. I graduated in May and had a teaching position and a coaching position by June, which was more than I ever could have asked for as a 22-year-old recent graduate. I fell in love right away.…
