    Lessons From My Dad

I’m honoring my dad, Dan Hossfeld, today by sharing some of his best life lessons: Finish your food or someone else will eat it Ohio State sucks Bald is beautiful Boxes of wine make for a great parallel parking course Don’t let your gas tank get too low in the winter or the gas will freeze Dave Matthews Band does have a few good songs Visors > hats The best way to mow the lawn is shirtless Naps should be 20 minutes long The best dessert is yellow cake with chocolate frosting The best way to read something is out load for all to hear The breakfast of champions is…

    How Football Made Me

From when I was born all the way up until my senior year of high school, every other fall Saturday was spent rising in the dark morning and driving down to West Lafayette, Indiana from Michigan to watch the Boilermakers. We had the dark years, we had the Joe Tiller years, we gained Hope and more than once we lost hope. I’ve watched the team change hands and I’ve watched the team change uniforms. I was a tiny elementary school girl standing in line to meet players like Drew Brees and Vinny Sutherland and I was a high school kid standing in line to meet players like Dustin Keller and Kory Sheets. Then, when…

    Mom Appreciation Post

Thank you to my mom. She is my supporter, manager, editor, friend, cheerleader, stylist, and photographer. She is the Lorelai to my Rory, minus all the annoying speed-talking. I am thankful for her and I know that I don’t always show it. Often, we take our anger or frustrations out on our moms because we know that even when we are jerks, they still have to love us. And often, we go to our moms for wisdom. We send them texts like, how do I wash this shirt? or do you like these boots? or how do I respond to this email? She always helped me with pageant paperwork and read over…

    Pageant Proud

Originally posted on April 11th, 2017 As a titleholder, volunteer, and director in pageantry, I have a voice to stand up for pageants and the amazingly positive impact they can make on women’s lives. It would be a waste of my time as Mrs. Indiana to NOT share more about pageants, so that those who feel so negatively about them can learn about it from a source outside of a movie or fake reality television show. Because, how can anyone be against building confidence, awarding scholarship money, and promoting talent? Pageantry is too often misunderstood by those who simply do not know what it takes to compete. As someone who has reaped…

    Happy Valentine’s Day

Originally written on February 14th, 2017 To me, this day should be about two things: Appreciating your loved ones and eating chocolate covered strawberries. I try to always be appreciative of my forever Valentine, Daniel, so I thought I would share a few stories on this pink and red date that show why I fall more in love with my Mr. every day. I think that any occasion to pause and think about why we love the wonderful people in our lives is a splendid one. Daniel and I don’t ever have too much luck in celebrating V Day- Our first Valentine’s was spent in a plow truck. I spent the wee hours…

    Breaking Wedding Traditions

Tradition. I have always valued and cherished tradition. As a cheerleading coach, a former sorority girl, and a pageant gal, I have belonged to many organizations and teams built on tradition. I have worn old uniforms and taught my athletes old cheers, I have learned the history and rituals of Delta Gamma, I have talked to judges about Miss and Mrs. Indiana winners throughout the years and what their stories teach us. I live for the sisterhoods that I belong to and the rich history behind their values. I love that my family always eats a holiday meal promptly at 1 PM and I woke up with a smile on my face every Saturday morning in…

How Disney World is Even Better as an Adult

My family first packed me into the car at 18 months old. I knew all of the characters’ names from watching and memorizing The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. From that trip forward, I was a Disney World girl. I cherished the short thrills on rides that I earned from standing in long lines. I collected autograph books and hugged Mickey and Minnie as my mom took pictures. I knew how to get around the Magic Kingdom before I knew how to get around my own hometown. You might think that Disney World loses its magic as you grow up, but it doesn’t. The magic simply changes. Just…
