    Paris Olympics 2024

Ever since I was little, it has been a dream of mine to go to the Olympics. Every four summers, I bury myself in whatever sport is on at that moment and I stay up way too late watching live coverage. Gymnastics and swimming have always been my favorites- I can so clearly remember watching Michael Phelps, Shawn Johnson, Gabby Douglas, and Ryan Lochte over the years on tv – but I lose myself in the stories about all of the athletes and their dreams, no matter the sport. I learn something new with every match of volleyball, every leg of the decathlon, every mile of speed walking. We originally…

    Kentucky Derby 150

It was a gorgeous- albeit a little wet on Friday and a little hot on Saturday- weekend in Louisville. I am thankful for mostly beautiful weather and two great days of racing. This weekend marked a big milestone, as it was the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby. The KY Derby has been held on the first Saturday of May very year since its inaugural event in 1875 with the exception of two years: in 1947 it was held in June due to the end of WWII, and in 2020 it was pushed to September due to COVID. There are so many special elements about the derby; I personally love…

Mitten Memories: Fall Break Dump 2023

We had the best little getaway in Michigan last week. Lake had the honor of being the ring bearer in Keegan and Sabrina’s wedding. He did SUCH a good job and was sooooooo excited to wear his tux. Roan and Lake both danced the night away at the reception! We got to Petoskey a little early, so we ventured out to a light house and Lake was very interested in learning about buoys. We spent one night in Mackinaw City and another in Charlevoix, before heading over to Mackinac Island for a quick visit on our last day. Roan was obsessed with the “Neigh Neighs” on the island and both…

    Disney 2023

Reliving our Spring Break trip to Disney World through pictures this week as I cry at work. Kidding. Kind of. We had so much fun with Lake and Roan, along with my grandparents and parents, a few weeks ago at Disney. Here are day-by-day photos, plus links to most outfits. Magic Kingdom {day 1} Roan’s ruffle bubble is inspired by the famous ride, It’s a Small World, which she loved riding. Lake’s shirt features the monorail, which he loved riding. EPCOT Lake and Roan’s matching outfits are from Stitchy Fish. Hollywood Studios The entire family sported “Cars” themed shirts, each one of us wearing a different character. Lake got to…

Christmas Traditions: A Michigan Christmas Eve

Looking toward Thursday’s impending bad weather, we are realizing that we will not be able to travel to Michigan as planned. While we wait for next weekend and hope for clear skies and roads, I thought it would be fun to look back at Christmas Eve pictures from over the years- In honor of our tradition; Christmas Eve at my Grandma and Grandpa Mumaw’s house (or as Lake says, Grandma and Papa Mumaw, his friends). My hair has changed over the years, Daniel joined the crew, and now we have two precious babies around. One thing is for sure though- There is always a Chocolate Lab involved. Pictures are 2010-2021.

    Disney 2022

Lake’s second trip to Disney (at 2.5 years) and Roan’s first trip to Disney (at 7 months) was one to remember. Lake is very in to Toy Story so the Buzz Lightyear ride in Magic Kingdom and Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios were his favorites, along with the Star Wars area at Hollywood Studios and all the “Sausage sandwishes” AKA cheeseburgers. Roan was such a little trooper and was the happiest girl all week. We all loved wathcing them both have fun. I am so thankful for these memories made with our kids, my parents, and my grandparents.

    NAM Nationals Fashion Round-Up

I am still feeling incredibly thankful for the opportunity to sit on the judges panel at National American Miss nationals last week. My mom and I both spent Thursday-Sunday meeting remarkable young women from across the country. Ages 4-24, these competitors showcased talent, modeling, public speaking, and onstage presentation skills. Over 600 girls made their way to Orlando, Florida to compete for the national titles in the NAM and All-American divisions. I learned so much about the NAM experience and what it means to be a part of the “NAMily”. Pageantry continues to give back to me with experiences like this and I am so grateful. It is something my…
